Dana Hubraq primarily works and lives between London and Gadigal Land (Sydney, Australia). Her practice examines the emotional and geographic disorientation of displacement, informed by personal and public archives pertaining to her diasporic Circassian heritage and upbringing in Australia and Jordan.
Ambiguous bodies of water, coastlines and landscapes often appear in her work in homage to the water that represents not only the possible fluidity of the postcolonial self, but also our ongoing relations with the international, interconnected legacies of colonialism—from the Circassians who perished in the Black Sea to the arrival of the First Fleet into Kamay (Botany Bay, Sydney).
